Inglewood Pumptrack Bike Giveway

When we found out Jeremy ("Head of feature development"[i just made that up] at the GV Playground and Manager of @dudegorideyourbike account on IG) was inspired to giveaway new GT BMX Bikes to kids who needed it at the Inglewood Pumptrack, we were STOKED to say the least. With money we've raised from Merch sales, we were able to contribute $400 to the cause - Thank you to everyone who has purchased merch! With GT matching 1 free bike for every bike purchased and giving "dealer pricing" on top of that, Jeremy was able to secure 12 BIKES to give away. Being advocates for helmets, We at GenerationMTB got involved to aquire helmets to give away as well. With some help from our Friends at JensonUSA, we were able to get 19 Fox helmets for the giveaway.

Jeremy was inspired for the giveaway when visiting the track, watching a dad with his 2 kids sharing a single bike to take laps. He thought how cool would it be if they had a bike for each of them and could ride alongside with eachother to enjoy together. With that, he started asking around and got in touch with The Loam Wolf who was able to get him in contact with GT to get an awesome deal on the bikes. Jeremy committed to buying 2 bikes himself with his own money (which with the deal from GT would get him 4 bikes to giveaway), but GT told him that it would ease the process and get a better deal if he was able to buy 6 or more - so he reached out to our wonderful MTB community and several donors SHOWED UP. He raised over $1400 which allowed him to purchase 12 bikes and 19 helmets. Jeremy had a few criteria for the bike giveaway: Kid's with beaters or walmart bikes, kids with NO bike or sharing a bike with a sibling/friend. That was pretty much it.

On Dec 31st, Jeremy had his camper-converted schoolbus loaded up with all 12 bikes and head to the pumptrack to meet Bobby from GenerationMTB with the helmets to begin the giveaway. His friend Chris from @ShreddingSpree on Youtube was there to help document it and share the stoke! The scene that morning was certainly different than the usual scene. There was a group of race-ready kids practicing - every kid there had a high end race BMX bike and all the gear to go with it. No candidates for the giveaway. After a bit while unloading the bikes from the schoolbus this kid, Jay, rolled up on his beat up bmx bike with only an operational front brake. Jeremy recognized him - never meeting him before, but from stories from the locals who all recommended this kid to receive a bike knew who he was. He was timid and a little nervous when Jeremy said "I heard you could use an upgrade" and let him pick out his choice of color and helmet. When asked what he wanted to do with his current bike he just said "I dont want it!" - After that - he hadn't stop riding the new bike for more than 5 minutes the entire time he was there. This kid was the PRIME CANDIDATE to receive one of these bikes. Since then, we've watched @bmx_jay123 sending it on the pumptrack on Instagram and even entering his first BMX Race!

Jeremy was able to hand out 2 more bikes that day and many helmets to kids (and adults) not wearing one. With the remaining bikes, he plans to bring a few with him ever visit to Inglewood Pumptrack find more good homes each time until they're gone!

GenerationMTB was SUPER STOKED to help with this and look forward to riding and more events with Jeremy in the future.
